He later joined the USAAF and participated in the air offensives over Europe, Tunisia, Algiers, French Morocco and in the Normandy campaigns. His plane was again shot down during his last mission in Normandy, four days after the D-Day Invasion and he stayed 67 days with the French Resistance. After the war, Lt Col, Donald McLeod earned the right to wear the Caterpillar, the “Winged Boot”, and the Goldfish insignia, rare honors for a survivor to wear. This book tells his story as a pilot of the RAF and the USAAF, and especially his incredible adventure with the French Resistance and allies in 1944..
